Trenton Ontario, the Start of the Trent Severn Waterway

 

Kingston & Trenton Ontario

Prior to reaching Trenton and lock one, we stopped in Kingston for a visit with our oldest son, and some of his Trenton high school friends and their parents. Some of whom, we had not seen in about 35 years. 




Next day we arrived at the Trent Port Marina, where we would leave our boat for a few days while we flew out to Winnipeg for the high school graduation of our #3 grandson.


The city of Trenton has done itself proud. The marina is one of the finest, modern, clean facilities that we have encountered in our many years of cruising. Not only do they cater to the needs and comforts of visiting cruisers, they did a great job of encompassing a beautiful park and venue for the citizens of Trenton.




We spent 4 days in Winnipeg, attending Tanner’s graduation dinner and later his convocation. Now a whole new world opens up for him. Can't wait to see where life takes him.


Although very busy, we were able to enjoy some family time with our daughter Heather and her husband Dave.

We arrived back in Trenton just before Quinte Airshow (Trenton) on 29th  & 30th June, just before Canada Day on July 1st.  This year the airshow was commemorating the 100th anniversary of the RCAF (Royal Canadian Air Force). Sadly, the air show portion was rained out on day one, but the sun shone on day two. We enjoyed a great view from the top of our boat, with Canada’s Snowbirds being the highlight and show finale.





We also had the opportunity to catch up with some long-time friends and enjoyed  a great Italian meal at Tomasso’s.

Canada Day was a quiet day for us, but we enjoyed viewing the spectacular fireworks show right from our own boat.






 Kudos once again! The city of Trenton put on a spectacular fireworks display.

Next morning we departed the marina and started our travels on the Trent Severn Waterway.

    Looks like you are on the 240 mile scenic route to Lake Huron. We will be on Superior's North Shore near Grand Marais during August so be sure to drop in if you're in the neighborhood.

May 20, Launch Day Launch day - a long, very chilly (42 F for us Texas wimps) and breezy day. Can someone please turn off the wind machine and turn on the heat! Travel Adventures of "Knot Kaos".

  Farewell "Kaos" January 2022 we sold our beloved "Kaos" a 55' Symbol pilothouse trawler. Following four summers exploring the gorgeous west coast areas of Washington and British Columbia. With a heavy heart, we decided it was time to sell and follow other adventures.  Fast forward to the summer of 2023, we yearned to be back on the water, realizing how much we missed the boating lifestyle and community. We began the search for a smaller, seaworthy trawler. After considerable research we settled on the American Tug 34'. Our decision to proceed was spurred on after reading an article about a Florida couple, Herb & Ruth Weiss, who at ages 97 and 104, yes, you read that correctly, had just purchased a new-to-them, 41' American Tug. North Channel Cruising, Ontario Canada

We are now back in Michigan. Internet and cell service in these remote parts of Canada were non-existent or spotty at best. Most marina internets were in name only, so updating the blog with cruising details went on hold until internet service improved. As a result, this post is a long one, covering our almost 4 weeks in Ontario's stunning and serene North Channel.  Blind River, Ontario - Canada Entry Clearance Check-in and Canadian clearance was a simple phone call for Nexus holders. This was the simplest process we have encountered. They asked if we had alcohol on board, we answered yes and were ready to provide a detailed list. All she wanted to know was did we plan to live aboard during our stay and was the alcohol for personal consumption. We answered yes to both questions and were immediately given our clearance number.
